This is a free taster version of Bounce Metronome Basic. You can only play rhythms in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8 and up to four subdivisions, and you don't have the Pro features of course. However, you may find that this covers all the time signatures you ever need to play, and for a beginner especially, it may be all you need.
You also get the software conductor as well, to help you keep on the beat and in time. This is a really cool and useful feature.
This gives an idea of what it looks like full-screen:
It's fine as your first bounce metronome for a beginner musician. Later you may want to upgrade to the paid for versions which have many more features such as gradually changing tempo, swing, and a much wider range of rhythms.
Would it be cool to be able to accent or skip any beat for the metronome, to play syncopated rhythms? Also would it be great to be able to set the instrument individually for each beat in the rhythm - e.g. to practice beat boxing?
You can do all this as well with the free taster metronome.
Or perhaps the visual look of the metronome is important for you? You can use any image you like as the background texture for all the windows, and configure any of the colours to your heart's desire. You can even play animations behind the bouncing balls, conductor's baton or drumstick visuals - or animate the skin texture - perhaps with gently flowing water - or whatever you like (this is a very rare, almost unique feature for a standard Windows program - the animated skin).
This free taster Time Signature Metronome can do all those things and more, and is completely free. It also includes a free test drive for the Basic and Pro metronomes, which have more features such as odd time signatures and any number of time signatures, polyrhythms, drum rudiments, mixed meters, gradually changing tempo, etc etc.
For many users, especially amateur musicians (apart from drummers who are likely to need a more advanced metronome), this metronome covers most of your needs for a metronome.
Where to get the free taster metronome
You get the free taster, the test drive, and the basic and pro metronomes all in the same download.
To find this metronome, download Bounce Metronome, and select Bounce Metronome Basic from the drop list of metronomes.
Bounce Metronome Basic will run as the free taster metronome when you first install the program. If you want to try out the more advanced features you can start a test drive at any time. It reverts to the freebie metronome if you have already taken it for a test drive and your test drive has expired.
You can hide Bounce Metronome's buy and unlock buttons in the free taster
When Bounce Metronome first runs then you will see an unlock window when the program starts up. You will also see unlock buttons in main window and below the help window. That's just to help anyone who wants to buy the program right away.
To hide those reminders for the free taster metronome, go to the Unlock window and switch ON "SKIP THIS WINDOW". Also switch OFF the "Show BUY NOW button on main window tempo dial" and the "Show CLICK TO BUY button on help window" check boxes,
Why is it free?
I hope many of you will eventually want to buy the Basic or Pro metronomes later on.
Even if you aren't particularly into odd time signatures, polyrhythms or mixed meters, there are things in the Pro metronome that will appeal to almost any musician.
Some time later on, you may well want to upgrade to the Pro version to explore swing. Drummers are likely to be interested in the drum rudiments and some of the other Pro features. Or maybe you might get it because you enjoy the fractal tunes or the rhythmicon.
Or you might want to use the Gradually Changing Tempo or Play then Silent features of the Basic Metronome.
I hope others of you will tell your friends about the software - as many of the sales are through recommendations of friends. Although you may only need the free features yourself, it is likely that some of your friends, or friends of friends, may want the paid for features.
And if none of those applies - well you get a great free metronome and I hope you will find it useful and fun. I enjoyed writing this software and it is nice to be able to provide something useful for free for many people.
:-).
What are the other metronomes like?
The super value Basic metronome has all the features of the free taster metronome - and can also play any time signature including odd time signatures, and any number of subdivisions, and has many other cool features including an option to go silent briefly, you can also set the instrument to play individually for each beat of the rhythm, and it has a simplified version of the gradually changing tempo feature.
Then the Pro metronome has many more features again such as Swing, polyrhythms, mixed meters, fully featured version of the gradually changing tempo, and so on.
